Derek Gonzales nasceu em São Bernardo do Campo - SP e se mudou para Varginha - MG aos 9 anos de idade. Aos 12 anos, começou a ter aulas de guitarra no lugar de seu irmão que tinha ficado algumas semanas afastado da guitarra por ter quebrado o braço num acidente de bicicleta. Derek continuou estudando guitarra e frequentou o Conservatório Estadual Marciliano Braga. Aos 17 anos, Derek se mudou para São Paulo para estudar Publicidade e Propaganda na USP, mas acabou optando por seguir seu chamado musical. Ele estudou no Conservatório Souza Lima (uma instituição que é parceira acadêmica da Berklee College of Music) e depois na Faculdade Santa Marcelina, onde se formou em Música Popular (Guitarra). Derek tocou com várias bandas em São Paulo e já realizou turnês em outros estados brasileiros. Ele está atualmente trabalhando em composições autorais em dois projetos a serem lançados em breve. Atua como professor desde 2012.
Derek Gonzales was born in Sao Bernardo do Campo (in the Greater Sao Paulo Area), Brazil. He grew up in the city of Varginha, where started learning guitar at age 12, taking lessons in place of his brother, Helder, who had to take a break from playing guitar for a few weeks due to a broken arm in a bicycle accident. Derek continued studying guitar and attended the Marciliano Braga State Conservatory. At age 17, Derek moved to Sao Paulo to study Advertising at University, but ended up dropping out in order to pursue his musical calling. He enrolled in the Souza Lima Conservatory (which is a Berklee College of Music academic partner) and later in the Santa Marcelina College, where he graduated with a degree in Music (Electric Guitar). Derek has played with multiple bands in the Sao Paulo area and has toured in other Brazilian States. He is currently working on original music with two projects to be released soon. He has worked as a teacher since 2012.
