O objetivo é reafirmar a crença bíblica defendida pela Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia quanto ao comportamento de um cristão diante de diferentes situações da sua vida cotidiana como recreação, mídia, vestuário, sexualidade, joias, ornamentos e saúde. A ideia do documento não é substituir a Bíblia e nem criar novas normas.
A intenção foi resumir, em uma linguagem simples mas clara e objetiva, o que Deus estabeleceu em Sua Palavra sobre esses temas no contexto da misericórdia e da graça cristãs. Trata-se de um material que reúne em um só lugar várias declarações que refletem o pensamento adventista sobre o assunto. Como o próprio documento diz, “as recomendações apresentadas neste documento não devem ser usadas como elemento de crítica ou julgamento de outros, mas como apoio para a vida pessoal”.

A committee of Adventist leaders from eight South American countries voted in late 2012 for a document titled Lifestyle and Christian Conduct. The goal is to reaffirm the biblical belief held by the Seventh-day Adventist Church regarding a Christian's behavior in the face of different situations in his daily life such as recreation, media, clothing, sexuality, jewelry, ornaments, and health. The idea of the document is not to replace the Bible nor create new norms.
The intention was to summarize in simple but clear and objective language what God has set forth in His Word on these themes in the context of Christian mercy and grace. It is a material that brings together in one place several statements that reflect Adventist thinking on the subject. As the document itself says, "The recommendations presented in this document should not be used as an element of criticism or judgment by others, but as a support for personal life."
