★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great boat ride, made in the afternoon, spent time in the dunes and then we went up close to an island to see the flock of Guarás (A very red bird) flying at dusk coming to spend the night. Excellent boat ride in the dark back to the pier.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful nature, don't miss the guaras at 5 oclock in the afternoon - spectacular natural "show" of thousands of red birds on an island in the delta. If you want to see the real delta do not take the huge brazilian partyboats except you are looking for this kind of Events (which is funny as well...)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This destination is about the fantastic Red Guará Sanctuary and is truly worth visiting during your vacation to Jericocoara and Lençois Maranhenses.
These deep red color birds are actually born grey and slowly turn into the red color during their first 2 years of life as they feed off the crabs that contains the red color substance. Every evening at around 6pm they all return to their home, a small island the size of a football field, to sleep. To sit in a boat and watch several thousand of these Guará return is a true wonder and an experience you will never forget. Tourist trips start from Parnaíba and include a stopover at the dunes where you can go for a swim and enjoy the scenery.
