★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I like to travel and engage with local people as much as I can in order to learn what the locals daily life is like. Most of the time I see myself ending up in big cities such as São Paulo, Brazil because it’s a place full of options to visit. On one of my visits to São Paulo a waiter told me I had to see a neighborhood called Santana.
When I was walking around I saw this very interesting old style barber shop and decided to walking in. It was full of really amazing decoration and history in every corner of the shop. I was welcomed by a nice gentleman named Marco, the barber, who happened to be the owner of the place. It was great talking to him and I had the opportunity to better my Portuguese skills.
With the ambiance and the conversations I was able to travel back in time through the story’s that he was able to tell me such as to why and how he had the idea of opening the shop. A few years ago he decided to put all his memorabilia he had being collected from his grandfather, a Portuguese immigrant, who decided to migrate to Brazil and open a barber shop in the neiborhood in the early’s of 1910. The pieces were then passed on to one of his son’s that was named after him, Joao Joaquim nicknamed “Zinho”. For that reason, Marco decide to name his Barber Shop after his beloved uncle and mentor in his honor. What a amazing history and dedication!!!
I ended up getting a great haircut and also had the opportunity to have my beard shaved in an old school traditional way with hot towels and lotion.
What a great place, professionalism and nice guy!
Thank you very much and I’ll stop by on my next trip to that beloved country, Brazil.
