★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Belém hostel is a nice place to be with friends, it's a friendly house and it has a great schedule to do in the city everyday. The hostel is in downtown, near of everything, including a beautiful Square, there's two malls next to the hostel, and the people that work there are so nice!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hostel has all of the amenities that one would wish for from a hostel. There are hammocks where you can pass your afternoon and the free breakfast can start you on your day. We were a little confused about who worked there and exactly who was in charge. It seems like they haven’t quite figured out if they want to be cut-throat businesspeople or a unique spot for travelers. Advise checking if other hostels are available.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When we arrived at hostel Belem, we were greeted by a friendly, but somewhat confused staff member. Unfortunately he didn’t understand nor speak English, so we had to exchange messages through google translate. After much back and forth, we discovered that our room had been given to another guest because they “wanted to stay another night”. Quite frankly, this is no excuse, as we were told that there were no mixed dorms, and that my girlfriend and I had to stay in separate dorms. Eventually we were put into the staff room, which smelt bad, and we still had to make our own beds. Overall not a great experience.
The beds were dirty, there was one shared bathroom, and the overall atmosphere wasn’t inviting at all. in the end we still paid full price for a normal dorm room.
This hostel is only good for one night, as a go between to another destination. However, on the plus side, the location is close to dock and ver-o-peso market.
Correction: the owner has decided to respond through blatant lies. First of all, he did not try to contact us ( in fact my girlfriend sent him a message before we left for Belem that we would be arriving late, to which the owner did not respond) second of all, we weren’t given any other “partner company option”, instead we were given blank stares and eventually a compromise to sleep in the staff room.
Instead of ignoring the review and blaming the situation on your guests, perhaps it’s better to improve your service in the future.
