Comecei a s novenas com minha mãe, ela faleceu e até hoje continuo assistindo, por mim, por ela e todos da família. Agora tenho 68 anos de idade e pretendo continuar até quando Deus e Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro permitirem. Nota 1000. Amém.
I have been attending masses and novenas for over 50 years, and I even studied 3 years at the Redemptorist College. I started the novenas with my mother, she passed away and to this day I continue to attend, for myself, for her and for everyone in the family. I am now 68 years old and intend to continue as long as God and Our Lady of Perpetual Help allow. Note 1000. Amen.

A história da paróquia está ligada aos padres redentoristas, que fundaram a igreja quando chegaram a Fortaleza, em 1963. As celebrações pelo jubileu começaram no último dia 13 e serão concluídas, neste domingo, com uma missa às 17 horas.
“Quando chegamos aqui existia apenas uma capelinha construída por padres holandeses. Viemos para cá com intuito de recrutar jovens para a nossa ordem redentorista”, explica o padre Brendan Coleman. Além de comemorar o objetivo alcançado, padre Coleman lembra as obras sociais trazidas pelos redentoristas para o bairro Rodolfo Teófilo.
“Aqui era uma comunidade muito carente. Sequer havia saneamento básico. Construímos uma escola perto da igreja e nessa escola oferecíamos cursos de corte e costura e datilografia”, detalha.
A escola onde esses cursos foram ofertados nos primeiros anos da paróquia é onde funciona hoje o Centro de Formação Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro, que fica em frente à igreja. Outro prédio nas proximidades abrigou o Colégio Redentorista, sede atual da Guarda Municipal de Fortaleza.
Festa para a comunidade
“São cinquenta anos de evangelização e de profundo envolvimento com a rotina do Rodolfo Teófilo, por isso é importante a participação da comunidade nas celebrações”, convida padre Brendan Coleman. Até este sábado, uma exposição contava a história da paróquia através de fotografias.
Neste domingo, haverá uma celebração eucarística para comemorar o jubileu. “Será o ponto alto das comemorações”, explica o religioso. Na ocasião será descerrada uma placa em homenagem aos 50 anos da igreja de São Raimundo Nonato.

Top .... Catholic community in the Rodolfo Teófilo neighborhood is celebrating. The faithful celebrate the golden jubilee of the São Raimundo Nonato parish. The history of the parish is linked to the Redemptorist priests, who founded the church when they arrived in Fortaleza, in 1963. The celebrations for the jubilee started on the 13th and will end this Sunday with a Mass at 5 pm.
“When we arrived here, there was only a small chapel built by Dutch priests. We came here in order to recruit young people for our Redemptorist order ”, explains Father Brendan Coleman. In addition to celebrating the goal achieved, Father Coleman recalls the social works brought by Redemptorists to the Rodolfo Teófilo neighborhood.
“Here was a very needy community. There was not even basic sanitation. We built a school close to the church and in that school we offered courses in sewing and typing and typing ”, he details.
The school where these courses were offered in the early years of the parish is where the Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro Training Center is located, which is in front of the church. Another building nearby housed the Redemptorist College, current headquarters of the Fortaleza Municipal Guard.
Party for the community
“There are fifty years of evangelization and deep involvement in the routine of Rodolfo Teófilo, so it is important for the community to participate in the celebrations”, invites Father Brendan Coleman. Until this Saturday, an exhibition told the story of the parish through photographs.
This Sunday there will be a Eucharistic celebration to commemorate the jubilee. “It will be the highlight of the celebrations”, explains the religious. On the occasion, a plaque in honor of the 50th anniversary of the church of São Raimundo Nonato will be unveiled.
