★ ★ ★ ★ ★ DETRAN is the acronym for the local Department of Motor Vehicles. Has anyone ever had a positive experience in a DMV anywhere? Long lines, long waits, confusing instructions, bureaucracy—this is what you expect to find. Surprisingly, the employees here are generally very helpful; and while the lines are long, I’ve never had to wait more than an hour to accomplish what I came to do. If you need to get a driver’s license or renew a driver’s license or take a road test, you will you will find yourself here eventually, but it won’t be so bad (NY State DMV is much, much worse).
Oh, in Brazil, you have to take a psych test to get a driver’s license, so some of you: beware!
