The term restaurant (from the French restaurant, restorer, that which restores) appeared in the 16th century, with the meaning of "restorative food, invigorating forces", and referred specifically to a soup, a concentrated meat broth. The modern use of the word emerged around 1765 when a Parisian known as Boulanger opened an establishment that offered several options. The first luxury restaurant was the Grande Taverne de London, founded in 1782 by Antoine Beauvilliers, on Rue de Richelieu in Paris. Before there were restaurants, the only place (with the exception of inns and taverns) where you could buy ready-to-eat food was the street kitchen. It has existed since the most remote antiquity and persists to the present day. According to the Guinness Book, the oldest restaurant in the world and still in operation is in Spain, on calle de Cuchileros 17, Plaza Mayor (Madrid). This is Sobrino de Botín, which has been operating uninterruptedly since 1725, although in the early years it was not exactly a restaurant, but an inn that received travelers, merchants, drovers. It belonged to the French cook Jean Botín and was not located at this current address, but in the Plaza de Herradores, far away. Candido Remis, nephew of the first owner, gave the house its current name, Sobrino de Botín.[2]

I had the misfortune of having lunch one day, I chose mixed barbecue, but the meats were warm from the day before, so I hope! (Could have been in the freezer longer). I have great senses of taste and smell! Not to mention the service at the counter that you feel like a beggar for leftovers, except for the waiter who served me with professionalism.
