O sistema operado pela Companhia Cearense de Transportes Metropolitanos, empresa de capital social capitaneada pelo Governo do Estado do Ceará e tem como atual presidente Eduardo Hotz. [1]. Fundada em 2 de maio de 1997, a companhia é responsável pela administração, construção e planejamento metroviários no estado do Ceará, estando presente nos sistemas de Sobral, Cariri e Grande Fortaleza.
Foi o primeiro do Ceará a entrar em operação por meio da CCTM, com o inicio de suas operações em fase experimental no dia 1 de dezembro de 2009.[2] O sistema possui 9 estações e uma linha de 13,6 km de extensão. A expectativa era que se transportasse cerca de 5 mil usuários por dia, numero três vezes maior do que os 1,3 mil usuários transportados atualmente.[3]
Sua implantação remodelou 13,6 km de malha ferroviária existente, recuperando a via permanente e retificando seu traçado para que as composições possam atingir maior velocidade entre as estações. Em Juazeiro foram construídas cinco estações e no Crato mais quatro. O custo inicialmente previsto para a implantação deste projeto era de R$ 13.223.522,32, valor posteriormente atualizado para R$ 25.190.720,90[4].
Em uma futura fase esta linha será estendida até o município de Barbalha, ao sul de Juazeiro do Norte.
The Cariri VLT, also known as Metrô do Cariri, is a means of public transport in the form of a VLT (Light Vehicle on Rails) that operates in the Metropolitan Region of Cariri covering the municipalities of Crato and Juazeiro do Norte, in the state of Ceará. The system operated by Companhia Cearense de Transportes Metropolitanos, a social capital company captained by the Government of the State of Ceará and has current president Eduardo Hotz. [1]. Founded on May 2, 1997, the company is responsible for the administration, construction and subway planning in the state of Ceará, being present in the Sobral, Cariri and Grande Fortaleza systems.
It was the first in Ceará to enter into operation through CCTM, with the start of its operations in an experimental phase on December 1, 2009. [2] The system has 9 stations and a 13.6 km long line. The expectation was that around 5,000 users would be transported per day, three times more than the 1,300 users currently transported. [3]
Its implantation remodeled 13.6 km of existing railway network, recovering the permanent track and rectifying its route so that the trains can reach greater speed between stations. Five stations were built in Juazeiro and four more in Crato. The cost initially estimated for the implementation of this project was R $ 13,223,522.32, an amount subsequently updated to R $ 25,190,720.90 [4].
In a future phase, this line will be extended to the municipality of Barbalha, south of Juazeiro do Norte.
