★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Conta a lenda que o valente guerreiro Tambiá, do povo cariri, desceu a Serra da Copaoba (Borborema) disposto a guerrear os Tabajaras, no litoral paraibano, mas, ferido num combate violento, foi levado prisioneiro para uma aldeia de inimigos. O chefe Tabajara ordenou-lhe a morte, mas, apaixonada pelo belo indígena forasteiro, a filha do Cacique pediu-lhe repetidamente que a deixasse cuidar das feridas de Tambiá. Apesar da permissão e do desvelo da jovem índia, o guerreiro cariri morreu e a virgem chorou nove luas, desconsoladamente, formando-se de suas lágrimas a fonte que recebeu o nome de Tambiá, designação que passou depois ao próprio bairro.
A bica de Tambiá, segundo revelam os arquivos, em 1889 já era “Fallada em quasi todo Brazil”, pois é “De uma água sem rival (...) e uma vertente de grande força (...) e metade da população da cidade ahy se abastece”.
A fonte natural foi urbanizada no século XVIII. Localiza-se no Parque Arruda Câmara, popularmente conhecida como “Bica”, Horto Zoobotânico dos mais pitorescos. No tempo em que a água da cidade ainda era transportada em ancoretas e burros, havia outras fontes famosas, como a Bica de Gravatá (1785), a Fonte do Riacho (1830) e a Bica dos Milagres (1848). A de Tambiá é uma das duas remanescentes (A outra é a fonte de Santo Antonio). Foi construída em 1782, por ordem da Provedoria da Fazenda Real, canalizando água para o povo. Sua reconstrução ocorreu na administração Gama Rosa, em 1889, e, no Governo Solon de Lucena, voltou a ser restaurada, mantendo-se a feição original e suas características naturais.
É tombada pelo IPHAN (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional) desde 26 de setembro de 1941.
Legend has it that the brave warrior Tambiá, of the Cariri people, descended the Serra da Copaoba (Borborema), ready to fight the Tabajaras, on the coast of Paraiba, but, wounded in a violent battle, he was taken prisoner to a village of enemies. Chief Tabajara ordered her death, but, in love with the handsome indigenous stranger, the Cacique's daughter repeatedly asked him to let her take care of Tambiá's wounds. Despite the permission and care of the young Indian, the Cariri warrior died and the virgin cried nine moons, disconsolately, the tears that formed the source that received the name Tambiá, which later passed on to the neighborhood itself.
The Tambiá spout, according to the archives, in 1889 it was already "Fallada in almost all of Brazil", because it is "Of a water without rival (...) and a strand of great strength (...) and half of the population ahy city supplies itself ”.
The natural source was urbanized in the 18th century. It is located in the Arruda Câmara Park, popularly known as “Bica”, the most picturesque Zoobotanical Garden. At the time when the city's water was still transported in anchors and donkeys, there were other famous fountains, such as Bica de Gravatá (1785), Fonte do Riacho (1830) and Bica dos Milagres (1848). Tambiá's is one of the two remaining (The other is the Santo Antonio fountain). It was built in 1782, by order of the Provedor da Fazenda Real, channeling water to the people. Its reconstruction took place during the Gama Rosa administration, in 1889, and, under the Solon de Lucena Government, it was restored again, maintaining the original feature and its natural characteristics.
It has been listed by IPHAN (National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute) since September 26, 1941.
