O órgão é responsável pela execução da política cartográfica e agrária no que se refere às terras públicas e pela defesa sanitária das atividades agropecuárias e florestais no território do Espírito Santo. Cabe também ao Instituto a coordenação da Unidade Técnica Estadual (UTE), que executa no Estado o Programa Nacional de Crédito Fundiário (PNCF).
 The Espírito Santo Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Defense (Idaf) is a state government agency, linked to the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Supply, Aquaculture and Fisheries (Seag).
The agency is responsible for the implementation of cartographic and agrarian policy regarding public lands and for the sanitary defense of agricultural and forestry activities in the territory of Espírito Santo. The Institute is also responsible for coordinating the State Technical Unit (UTE), which executes the National Land Credit Program (PNCF) in the State.
