Os participantes desse reavivamento foram cheios do Espírito Santo da mesma forma que os discípulos e os seguidores de Jesus durante a Festa Judaica do Pentecostes, no início da Igreja Primitiva, conforme está escrito em Atos 2. Assim, eles foram chamados de “pentecostais”.
Exatamente como os crentes que estavam no Cenáculo, os precursores do reavivamento do Século XX falaram em outras línguas que não as suas originais quando receberam o batismo no Espírito Santo. Outras manifestações sobrenaturais tais como profecia, interpretação de línguas, conversões e curas também aconteceram.
The origin of the Assemblies of God in Brazil is in the fire of revival that swept the world around 1900, early 20th century, especially in North America. Participants in this revival were filled with the Holy Spirit just as Jesus' disciples and followers during the Jewish Feast of Pentecost at the beginning of the Early Church, as it is written in Acts 2. Thus, they were called "Pentecostals."
Just like the believers in the Upper Room, the forerunners of twentieth-century revival spoke in languages other than their originals when they received baptism in the Holy Spirit. Other supernatural manifestations such as prophecy, language interpretation, conversions, and healing also took place.
