★ ★ ★ ★ ★ No lugar de uma pequena capela que ali existia no século XVI, foi construída a atual igreja no final do século XVII, em estilo barroco autêntico. Uma inscrição datada de 1836, na fachada da igreja, indica algum evento comemorativo realizado naquele ano. No passado, muitas manifestações religiosas e folclóricas eram realizadas em frente à igreja. É tombada pelo Iphan como Patrimônio Histórico Nacional desde 1938.
O destaque dessa igreja é o seu grande ‘frontão’ – essa elevação das fachadas é uma das principais características das igrejas barrocas da região de Goiana. Alguns arquivos mencionam que essa configuração da fachada foi concluída somente em 1835.
Dentro da igreja, o interior é singelo, e não há forro na nave central. O retábulo do altar mor é esculpido em estilo rococó tardio, e, embora tenha sofrido muitos desgastes com o passar dos anos, ainda guarda sua beleza, com proporções estreitas que lhe dão uma impulsão para o alto.
In place of a small chapel that existed there in the 16th century, the current church was built at the end of the 17th century, in authentic Baroque style. An inscription dated 1836 on the facade of the church indicates some commemorative event held in that year. In the past, many religious and folkloric demonstrations were held in front of the church. It has been listed by Iphan as a National Historic Landmark since 1938.
The highlight of this church is its large 'fronton' – this elevation of the facades is one of the main features of Baroque churches in the region of Goiana. Some files mention that this façade configuration was completed only in 1835.
Inside the church, the interior is simple, and there is no ceiling in the central nave. The altarpiece of the high altar is sculpted in the late rococo style, and, although it has suffered a lot of wear and tear over the years, it still retains its beauty, with narrow proportions that give it an upward impulse.
