★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A histórica Freguesia de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, da povoação de Pajeú de Flores, no alto sertão pernambucano, teve seu território desmembrado da Matriz de Cabrobó. Sua instalação ocorreu no final de 1783, oportunidade em que o padre João de Sant’Ana Rocha foi empossado como seu primeiro vigário. A antiga capela de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, por ser a mais bem equipada da localidade, tornou-se sede da novel paróquia, mas continuou sediando a irmandade dos negros.
O referido templo passou por várias reformas, graça à iniciativa e aos esforços do vigário Pedro Manoel da Silva Burgos. Em 1861, foi totalmente remodelado pelo frade capuchinho Serafim de Catânia, que aqui esteve realizando suas santas Missões.
Da criação da freguesia à instalação da vila, transcorreram 27 anos. Principal núcleo de ocupação humana em todo o sertão do Pajeú, a povoação de Flores foi elevada à condição de município, com a denominação de Pajeú de Flores, através do Alvará de 15 de janeiro de 1810, assinado pelo governador da capitania Caetano Pinto de Miranda Montenegro, tornando-se a primeira vila da região.
Oficialmente, o município foi instalado no ano seguinte, pelo ouvidor José Marques da Costa. Durante a primeira metade do século XIX, a Vila de Pajeú de Flores gozou do privilégio de ser, desde as nascentes até a foz daquele rio, o centro polarizador das decisões políticas e administrativas.
A Igreja Matriz passou por várias reformas, ao longo dos anos, e atualmente, em 2022, está com esse aspecto totalmente remodelado. Devido à sua posição estratégica, no alto da praça onde iniciou a cidade, a Matriz é vista com a merecida imponência.
The historic Parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in the village of Pajeú de Flores, in the upper hinterland of Pernambuco, had its territory separated from the Mother Church of Cabrobó. Its installation took place at the end of 1783, when Father João de Sant’Ana Rocha was sworn in as its first vicar. The old chapel of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, being the best equipped in the locality, became the headquarters of the new parish, but continued to host the brotherhood of blacks.
