★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great location, was able to walk to plenty of places close by, including the beach. The hostel offered plenty of events at night as well as close by recommendations. The best part was the incredible staff here, I would not have survived Rio without the help of the staff !

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Alert! This was the worst hostel experience I have ever had! Noisy, unhygienic and downright rude staff- I had to leave in the middle of the night.
Do not stay here. I‘m serious-I’ve stayed in all kinds of hostels over the world, but this hostel should be shut down.
I arrived on Friday night 13.5.22 at the Ipanma Beach Hostel. The reception was extremely loud as it doubles as the hostel’s bar/club. Hence my check in was essentially non existent. I had to pay right away, because that‘s all they cared about-taking money, but giving nothing in return!
I arrived in my private room which was run down and stank of smoke. It was so bad that I knew I couldn‘t even spend a single night in it. Not only disgusting, the room was also unbearably loud from the bar downstairs (I was on the 3rd floor). I asked the girl named Thay from the reception/bar to inspect my room to see could she do anything about the smell or poor condition. When she hadn‘t come up after 20 min I went back downstairs to ask her again. She then told me she couldn’t leave the bar to see my room because it was so busy. When I booked a hostel with a ‘24 hour reception’ I hadn’t realised that it wouldn’t actually be staffed to attend to its guests’ issues. I told her that I felt very uncomfortable and I couldn’t stay in the room. She seemed to understand and was apologising, but couldn‘t give me the money back because her manager was not there. She reassured me that a refund wouldn‘t be a problem though. It transpired that the manager named Nadine is basically never there and doesn’t seem to care about the experience of her guests. She was rude and didn’t seem to get that when a customer leaves a hostel in Rio at 23.15 at night and walks out onto the street alone it’s dangerous and not a decision I or any other traveller would take lightly. I‘m still waiting to get my money back as I have NOT SPENT ONE SINGLE NIGHT in the room! The unprofessional attitude, poor hygiene and inadequate staffing in the Ipanema Beach Hostel is alarming! Do not stay there. It’s a scam. The only way they make money is by having drunk people stay-they’re the only ones who won’t notice how awful it is.
I‘m also very disapponted by booking.com as they haven’t assisted me really in this bad situation! They know that I’m both a regular and reasonable customer. I expected better support from them. #ipanemabeachhostel #booking.com #riohealth #riotourism #hygeneissuesriohostel

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My friend and I really enjoyed our stay with the most friendly people working here, especially Mar, she brought us to the most amazing tours and places in Rio de Janeiro. We had everything we needed and couldn’t ask for more. I would recommend it to everyone going to Rio!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Best holiday I’ve been on, the sight was perfect and only a few minutes away from the beach. The staff were very welcoming and kind, especially Tay who was extra kind in helping me get my bearings when I arrived and throughout my trip. I met lots of lovely people who helped me with local sights too.
The atmosphere was amazing with great night life and a great feeling of being welcomed to everything.
I have met friends for life and will be definitely be going back to see them! Obrigado!
