★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a must do activity for Belo Horizonte. Shop for artisanal gourmet products like specialty cheeses and sweets, or discover a vast array of local cachaça.
It's also a great place to pick up trinkets for gifts and other knickknack. The people here are friendly and helpful, and unlike other markets in different cities throughout Brazil, there's less rabble and shouting.
You can even make a pit stop at one of the bars inside the market and sample some local dishes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a great for tourist or foodie in Belo Horizonte. There is a massive selection of gourmet and specialty foods, fruits, vegetables and meats in this market. Also you sample several different types and flavors of caçhaca here.
There are also restaurants in the market if you want to sit down and have lunch or dinner.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A destination when in Belo Horizonte! The food, the shops, the people, the experience is absolutely unique and overwhelmingly outstanding.
I love everything about Mercado Central de BH. I always make a point to stop, grab a bite to eat, and drink (Choppe or caipirinha!) and bring something you only find in Brazil, home.
My suggestion, if you can get to Mercado by public transportation or walking, you'll be saving money you can spend shopping or eating because parking is VERY expensive at R$12/hr which can rack up quickly if you make your visit an afternoon event.
