Anyway if you prefer to try something truly local, take a ride on the sea front of the "mercado municipal rio vermelho" and introduce yourself as #Gringo to the fishermans out there might be the best choice.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There has been a market on this site for many decades, but the current structure was built in 2012 when the old stalls were demolished. It is very large, well-lit and has many, many stalls selling just about everything from fruits and vegetables, cheeses, wines & liquors, barbershops, specialty foods, restaurants, pet shops, butchers, fish mongers and many others (about 100 or so in all).
Their prices are very good. It’s not the usual place you’d go as a tourist, but that makes it all the more interesting to shop than in a mall for instance.
They have a private parking lot too.

There are some exclusive restaurants as the German one that are rarely seen in this city. It's definitely worth a visit and you'll surely gonna grab at least some fast snack.
