★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nordeste is the company that operates the ferryboat I use to get to my house in Lucena—it operates between the port city of Cabedelo and Lucena. The ride takes about 20 minutes to cross the Rio Paraíba and it’s a pleasant ride. The ferry accommodates both vehicles and pedestrians and in the off-season, there’s almost never much of a line to get on. However in the summer and holidays (especially Carnaval), the line of cars can be huge and you can wait hours to get on.
The ferry runs once an hour (or every half-hour in busy times) from 6AM until 7PM, and the prices are reasonable. Make sure you don’t miss the last boat or you will have to drive 88 kilometers (54 miles) to get to Lucena.
