Com o início de suas obras datadas de 1857 numa arquitetura renascentista, mas que em 1981 passou por uma reforma que a deixou em arquitetura clássica e moderna, retirando-se seu altar-mor. A Paróquia de Nossa Senhora da Luz está localizada no centro da cidade, do alto de suas escadarias, mostrando-se de uma beleza ímpar e sendo considerada o marco zero da cidade.[carece de fontes]
No seu interior, abriga pequena imagem de Nossa Senhora da Luz, santa padroeira do município e da própria diocese, datada de 1755, quando o Sr. José Rodrigues Gonçalves da Costa resolveu deixar sua terra natal (Beiriz, povoado de Póvoa de Varzim, ao norte de Portugal) e conduziu consigo a pequena imagem para a Rainha do Brejo.
