Por volta de 1918, os Salesianos, adquiriram uma chácara no Alto de Santana, bairro do Chora Menino, onde construíram, em primeiro lugar, um campo de futebol e um galpão para os alunos do Liceu passearem e brincarem, num ambiente de ar puro, pois muitos deles estavam convalescendo da Grande Gripe, que assolou o mundo depois da Primeira Guerra Mundial (1914-1918).
