★ ★ ★ ★ ★ No dia 02 de maio de 1965, após ter lido o decreto de presença do povo, considerou-se Paróquia São Cosme e São Damião de Itamaraju-Bahia, legitamamente ereta, e a capela de São Cosme e São Damião passa a ser a Igreja Matriz e sede da nova paróquia. O primeiro missionário residente foi Frei Oscar, OFM, tendo chegado mais de 5 frades capuchinhos para a vice-província, dentre os quais Frei Geraldo Costello, este a pedido do bispo, tornou-se vigário de Frei Oscar, que se encontrava com pouca saúde. Em 1921, a capela foi derrubada por uma ventania, e em 11 de outubro de 1966 iniciou-se a construção de uma nova igreja baseada num projeto de um monge beneditino. A nova igreja foi concluída completamente em 1972. Em 04 de outubro de 1976 foi inaugurada a Fundação São Francisco de Assis para dar assistência aos pobres. A nova fraternidade foi fundada com a autorização do bispo diocesano, em 18 de março de 1968. A Fraternidade e a Paróquia foram confiadas à Província Nossa Senhora da Piedade, da Bahia e Sergipe, após ter sido suprimida a Vice-Província de Caravelas, em 2001.
On May 2, 1965, after reading the decree of the presence of the people, it was considered Parish São Cosme and São Damião de Itamaraju-Bahia, legally erect, and the chapel of São Cosme and São Damião becomes the Mother Church and headquarters of the new parish. In 1921, the chapel was overthrown by a gale, and on October 11, 1966, a new church was built on a project of a Benedictine monk. The new church was completely completed in 1972. On October 4, 1976 the St. Francis of Assisi Foundation was inaugurated to assist the poor. The new fraternity was founded with the permission of the diocesan bishop on March 18, 1968. The Fraternity and the Parish were entrusted to the Province of Our Lady of Mercy, Bahia and Sergipe, after the suppression of the Province of Caravelas in 2001.
