★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A praça foi inaugurada em 1936, tendo sido reinaugurada em 20 de março de 2017 após ser reurbanizada. A revitalização da praça foi feita no âmbito do Porto Maravilha, uma operação urbana que visa revitalizar a Zona Portuária do Rio de Janeiro.
A praça recebeu seu nome por homenagear José da Costa Azevedo, o Barão de Ladário, que foi o último ministro da Marinha do Segundo Reinado (1840–1889). Barão de Ladário também desempenhou as funções de deputado geral e de senador da República ao longo de sua vida, além de ter sido a única vítima da Proclamação da República do Brasil.
A praça foi construída em virtude de um projeto que visava a remodelação do litoral da cidade, sob autoria do engenheiro francês Alfred Agache e elaborado entre 1927 e 1930. Segundo o projeto, o atual Edifício Almirante Tamandaré e a praça seriam construídos no local onde ficava o antigo prédio que comportava o gabinete do ministro da Marinha. Em fevereiro de 1936, por meio do Decreto n° 5.894, o logradouro Praça Barão de Ladário foi criado.
Entre 2012 e 2016, a praça abrigou um poço de ataque, de 26 metros de diâmetro e 45 metros de profundidade, que tinha por função auxiliar as obras dos túneis Rio450 e Prefeito Marcello Alencar. Ao fim das obras, em agosto de 2016, a área do poço de ataque foi fechada com uma laje de concreto. A praça foi reinaugurada em 20 de março de 2017, passando a contar com novo urbanismo e mobiliário, seguindo o padrão empregado na Orla Conde.

The square was opened in 1936, having been reopened on March 20, 2017 after being re-urbanized. The revitalization of the square was carried out within the scope of Porto Maravilha, an urban operation that aims to revitalize the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The square received its name for honoring José da Costa Azevedo, Barão de Ladário, who was the last minister of the Navy of the Second Reign (1840–1889). Barão de Ladário also served as deputy general and senator of the Republic throughout his life, in addition to being the only victim of the Proclamation of the Republic of Brazil.
The square was built as a result of a project aimed at remodeling the city's coastline, under the authorship of the French engineer Alfred Agache and elaborated between 1927 and 1930. According to the project, the current Almirante Tamandaré Building and the square would be built in the place where it was the old building that housed the office of the Minister of the Navy. In February 1936, through Decree No. 5,894, the Praça Barão de Ladário street address was created.
Between 2012 and 2016, the square housed an attack pit, 26 meters in diameter and 45 meters deep, whose function was to assist the construction of the Rio450 and Mayor Marcello Alencar tunnels. At the end of the works, in August 2016, the area of the attack pit was closed with a concrete slab. The square was reopened on March 20, 2017, with new urbanism and furniture, following the pattern employed at Orla Conde.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excelente local para passear durante o final de semana e aproveitar a beleza da orla do centro do Rio. Mesclando a beleza dos prédios do final do Século XIX e do início do Século XX, com a beleza natural da vista da Baía de Guanabara. A Ciclovia também é uma boa pedida. Recomendo, tanto para um passeio a pé, quanto para um passeio mais cultural ( o centro do Rio reúne vários centros culturais e museus ). Também é possível ser um passeio divertido para se fazer com a família e até levar as crianças.
Excellent place to stroll during the weekend and enjoy the beauty of the edge of downtown Rio. Mixing the beauty of the buildings from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with the natural beauty of the view of Guanabara Bay. The Ciclovia is also a good option. I recommend it, both for a walking tour and for a more cultural tour (the center of Rio has several cultural centers and museums). It is also possible to be a fun outing to do with the family and even take the kids.
