★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located in Botafogo, and focused on Slow Food ideas, The Slow Bakery offers a unique menu of global Breads built by natural fermentation alongside house-roasted Coffee in cozy environs with great service.
Using the description “from field to table,” and open Tuesday through Friday from 11h00 to 19h30 plus Saturday 09h00 to 15h00, it was approximately two hours prior to closing that the store was found mostly full, staff fluent in English exceedingly pleasant and the combination of free WiFi plus copious power outlets a welcome sight after several hours of sightseeing.
Producing everything from Yogurt and Ice Cream to Cakes, Jams and Bread on-site, the latter built on an inherited Lactobacillus Sanfranciscensis starter, it was with strong Cold Brew in hand that three items were received after re-warming, the Banana Bread crumbly yet moist and quite similar to what might expect from Grandma’s kitchen.
Moving next to The Slow Bakery’s Cinnamon Roll, an item not otherwise seen in Rio or São Paulo, suffice it to say that the addition of Dulce de Leche certainly did not hurt a springy coil of Sourdough while the Cookie saved for last was fluffy with warm Vanilla notes, but fairly light in Chocolate Chips.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent food but service is (as usual for Rio) a bit chaotic. Both times we have had items missing. Not a big deal considering how good the food is but just be aware.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a bad experience eating at the new Slow Bakery in Leblon. When ordering a panelinha with an egg that came completely raw, white and yoke, the chef refused to give it another minute on the stove. She also refused to talk to me when I wanted to explain to her.
I am amazed that the chef would rather take the dish back and trash it than making the client happy!! I don't know how the chef can defend this choice of hers, it's a bakery not a five star Michelin restaurant!!
The waiter was very sorry and embarrassed, I felt bad for him.
I left the place without having breakfast.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best sourdough you can get in Rio, hands down. The pão de melaço (kind of a gingerbread) is amazing and the volcano is also delicious. Can't go wrong with anything they serve here. Definitely would recommend it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was there many times to buy bread and I love it. Today I was there first time for breakfast. I am vegetarian, so I ordered bread, cheese and egg. I got it after waiting super long but the egg was fried on a plate with meat and everything tasted like that. So I couldn’t eat it at all. The service was super nice and brought me a new one but it isn’t a place for vegetarians… the cheese cake was mind blowing good. I will buy my things still there but I don’t go there for food anymore. They cool everything on the same plate.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Meanest staff I have encountered in Brazil. Grilled cheese sandwiches look great but are too creamy and runny. Sadly no espresso drinks and the WiFi does not work currently. Not cheap.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the few places which I would recommend in Rio. I didn’t like croissants here, sandwiches also was not really good, but eggs with tomato sauce and goat cheese… I really enjoyed this meal! Give 5 for it, and coffee also was good.
