Personnel here were at least fairly agreeable. My biggest complaint is that the Unidas rental return is not part of the marked car rental return area at SDU (blue "Locadoras" signs, the first of which unnecessarily passes one through the congested Petrobras service station), and is essentially not marked at all (you only see the Unidas signs once you are in the return area, which is in the adjoining shopping center parking lot). I guess you mightsee them from the terminal approach, if you knew exactly where to look, but that's not the point of signs, is it?
Had to park car in airport parking lot, find the Unidas rental counter at the opposite end of the airport terminal, and be directed baqck to rental return, at the same end of the terminal where I started. Barely found the location, even with directions and the map they had at the rental counter (Movida rental car far better marked).
Car check-in was attended, but I had to get out of the car and walk up to an attendant to actually start the check-in (he didn't bother to walk to the car himself).
SDU airport is generally much improved over what it was in the 90's when I first traveled to Rio. However, the car rental experience with Unidas at both SDU and GIG remains stuck in the 3rd world 1990s.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I showed up in a store, and attendants can’t book a car there, you have to call. Takes +20 min to book, then same to hop in the car at a store. No signs to where to drop the car at Santos Dumont airport, you follow locadoras, they are not there. No store to drop off car across the bay, large enough town of Niteroi. Too many flaws in a simple enough business.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Worst rental service in Brazil. National Emerald Executive and already registered before at their Sao Paulo location it took a completely incapable, unfriendly agent 40 min for a simple rental contract. Getting out of the parking lot takes another 15 min. Don’t rent with Unidas/National

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Recently I reserved via internet for 4 days, the day I had to take the car I arrived 2 hours late due a airport delay. For my surprise, they said that the reservation was cancelled due to the delay and if I wanted a car, I have to pay front desk price, which was 300 Reais on top of the original price. Despite this event, car was as expected. Service from lady at the front desk was not very kind...
