Essential stop to understand the origins of Salvador and Brazil itself. We highly recommend the wood panels that represent the orixa deities.

If you go to Pelourinho it is essential to visit this museum. Incredible exhibitions! The Orixás de Carybé panel is indescribable, one of the most striking works I have ever seen. Admission is free for students from Federal Institutes.

I didn't like it, I wasn't accompanied by a guide and I found it very confusing, not to mention that I thought it was related to culture, but it seemed more connected to religion.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Origins of this institution we're discussed as early as 1946. Located in the 1970s in this central historical district of Pelorinho, it's currently housed in a majestic facility used by Federal University of Bahia. The museum itself is small not taking long to visit. Very rich worthwhile display with English text available.
