★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A Casa do Capitão-Mor está situada no primeiro núcleo habitacional da cidade, local onde outrora esteve a Fazenda Caiçara, da qual se originou Sobral. Em estilo colonial, foi provavelmente construída em 1772, sendo um dos poucos exemplares da arquitetura, dos materiais e das técnicas construtivas do século XVIII. O imóvel pertenceu ao Capitão-Mor José de Xerez Furna Uchoa, um dos mais antigos moradores da Vila Distinta e Real de Sobral, onde foi vereador e Juiz de Órfãos, sendo também responsável pela introdução do cultivo do café no Ceará.
Após consecutivos ciclos de ocupação, a centenária edificação passou por criteriosos trabalhos de prospecção arqueológica que mediaram seu restauro, permitindo que o imóvel resgatasse suas características iniciais, e possibilitando às atuais gerações vivenciar este elo entre passado e presente, memória e história. Desde então, a Casa vem desenvolvendo atividades voltadas à discussão e valorização do patrimônio cultural sobralense, compreendido tanto em seu caráter material, presente nas edificações e monumentos do Centro Histórico, quanto imaterial, representado pelo saber fazer da população e pelas manifestações culturais.
The Capitão-Mor House is located in the first housing nucleus of the city, where was once Fazenda Caiçara, from which Sobral originated. In colonial style, it was probably built in 1772, being one of the few examples of architecture, materials and construction techniques of the eighteenth century. The property belonged to Captain-Mor José de Xerez Furna Uchoa, one of the oldest inhabitants of the Distinct and Real Village of Sobral, where he was a councilor and Judge of Orphans, and also responsible for the introduction of coffee cultivation in Ceará.
After consecutive cycles of occupation, the centennial building underwent careful archaeological research that mediated its restoration, allowing the property to recover its initial characteristics, and enabling current generations to experience this link between past and present, memory and history. Since then, the Casa has been developing activities aimed at discussing and valuing the cultural heritage of Sobral, understood as much in its material character, present in the buildings and monuments of the Historical Center, as immaterial, represented by the know-how of the population and by cultural manifestations.
