What a bunch of thieves! I highly recommend that you AVOID Foco like the plague (unless you’re in the mood to be fleeced). I needed to book a rental car for a recent trip so I searched online and booked through Expedia. The price was listed clearly as was the security deposit. The fun starts when you try to get the car you contracted. First, they try to up-sell you to a more expensive vehicle, but since I already booked a full-size car, they went on to their next trick. “You need to get the extra insurance”, she said. “No, I don’t need it”. “If you don’t get the extra insurance, you need to leave a R$5000 security deposit”. I was in a hurry, because if I had the time, I would have left and rented from another agency. I caved in and bought it. “How much more” you ask? Double. I had to pay double the price to get out of there. Was the car any good? Who cares! Nobody wants to be ripped off, even if the car is comfortable.

The car exchange went well after all. Additions: We experienced long systems delays and people who are only committed to what they are allowed in within their job. We experienced short replies and little costumer service (given two in our group of two speak fluent portuguese) :( After more than 1 month and more than 4 calls on the phone still haven't received my deposit of $170 back ... on the phone people justify that someone else is responsible for it. in the store people said it is outside their ability. Good initial price, many people with let's say good intentions, but actually not worth the time or trouble. All the best.

Extremely slow service , took me 2 hours from the time I arrived in the store. They gave me a car under the class that I reserved, after complaining, I was offered another car but I had to wait in line...again. Absolutely my worst car rental experience in 35 plus years. After returning the car 14 days later , I left my jacket in the car, called from the Airport, nobody could find it, I returned to the rental site, informed them of the jacket location, I was told no jacket was in the back seat... I told them , I left my apt, put the jacket in the back seat and drove directly to the airport .... asked to speak to the manager,,, complained that an employee must have stolen it ....now all of a sudden my jacket was found .... and bought to me by an employee...horrible car rental company....

There is a reason why it is cheap. The license plate fell off. Make sure that the screws are in if you rent here. But better yet, don’t !

Incompetent customer service experience. A shame we had a good experience in Fortaleza and horrible one in Salvador. The staff can’t think proactively or out of the box. They desperately need some training. From arrival to driving out it took us 1:45. I would certainly not recommend and try luck elsewhere.

A good supportive service, although language issues made communication tricky at times. The vehicle was clean and photographic evidence of knocks and bangs taken before it was handed over.

On the same trip, I tried other local brazilian companies before Foco (such as Movida and Localiza) and this was the WORST experience by far. It all started with the contract and the company’s operator trying insistently to sell their insurance for an additional cost (my reservation already included a cover more than enough), after rejecting it, they even lowered the price twice, a powerful reason to think that it is just a wasted of money and a clear benefit for them. At pick up, the car was not very clean (it was ok, but clearly not up to the level I had seen before, and yeah I didn’t complain about it, cause just wanted to take the car and drive after a long flight). On the following days, with heat, the car began to smell really really BAD inside (rotten eggs or something dead, idk, up to the point of having to wear masks and cleaning products to try to cover it), and finally the global experience: I took the top category car they have, at the most expensive cost, and I would say I had a MUCH better service, for less money with the other companies, so I would suggest to go there before thinking about this option. I just didn’t immediately come back and argue with them about all this because, hopefully, we just rented the car for two days… otherwise I think we just wouldn’t have tolerated it and of course, we let them know about it when we gave the car back, but they just apologized….
