★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Poucos conhecem o rio Calhau. É um curso d'água localizado em São Luís, na porção norte da cidade. Percorre 2,2 km e deságua na Praia do Calhau. Um de seus principais afluentes é rio Canaã, por vezes considerado como parte do rio Calhau. O rio passa por baixo da Avenida dos Holandeses e da Avenida Litorânea. A falta de saneamento básico e o esgotamento sanitário despejado diretamente no rio fazem com que muitas vezes essa parte da praia fique com uma língua negra!
 Few people know the Calhau river. It is a watercourse located in São Luís, in the northern portion of the city. It runs for 2.2 km and flows into Praia do Calhau. One of its main tributaries is the Canaã River, sometimes considered to be part of the Calhau River. The river runs under Avenida dos Holandeses and Avenida Litorânea. The lack of basic sanitation and the sanitary sewage dumped directly into the river often make this part of the beach have a black tongue!
