★ ★ ★ ★ ★ O que falar da Igreja Matriz de Santa Teresa D'Avila, a Padroeira de Imperatriz Maranhão? Se escrevesse um livro ainda seria pouco. Frei Manoel Procópio, o fundador de Imperatriz era devoto fervoroso desta estimada Santa da Igreja Católica, carregava consigo uma imagem de Santa Teresa quando encarregado pelo estado do Pará de colonizar estas paragens, por um grande engano geográfico o padre veio bater nas barrancas do Tocantins mas do lado maranhense, que achava que era o Pará. Chegando neste sertão tratou logo de construir uma capela em homenagem a sua santa predileta, ou seja, Santa Teresa D'Avila, local hoje onde se encontra o Hospital da Unimed. Em maio de 1935 foi iniciada a construção da moderna igreja atual, na Avenida 15 de Novembro, hoje Avenida Frei Manoel Procópio, sendo inaugurada no dia 6 de outubro de 1937, no dia de início dos festejos de Santa Teresa. Infelizmente a histórica capela construída com adobes pelo legendário padre carmelita, foi demolida, e com isso se foi uma parte da história de Imperatriz Maranhão.
 What about the Mother Church of Santa Teresa D'Avila, the patron saint of Imperatriz Maranhão? If I wrote a book it would still be little. Frei Manoel Procópio, the founder of Imperatriz was a fervent devotee of this esteemed Saint of the Catholic Church, he carried with him an image of Saint Teresa when charged with the state of Pará to colonize these areas, for a great geographical mistake the priest came to hit the banks of Tocantins on the Maranhão side, who thought it was Pará. Arriving in this hinterland, he immediately tried to build a chapel in honor of his favorite saint, that is, Santa Teresa D'Avila, where the Unimed Hospital is today. In May 1935 the construction of the current modern church began, on Avenida 15 de Novembro, today Avenida Frei Manoel Procópio, being inaugurated on October 6, 1937, on the beginning of the festivities of Santa Teresa. Unfortunately the historic chapel built with adobes by the legendary Carmelite priest, was demolished, and with that it was a part of the history of Imperatriz Maranhão.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Muito boa e bonita a igreja. Possui acessibilidade, estacionamento e é climatizada. As celebrações em certa épocas ado ano é realizado do lado externo da igreja sem tirar a magia da celebração. Uma pena é a desorganização do estacionamento, se chegar cedo é melhor estacionar na rua, devido estacionarem de qualquer forma fechando a passagem.
Very nice and beautiful church. It has accessibility, parking and is air conditioned. Celebrations at certain times of the year are held outside the church without taking away the magic of the celebration. A pity is the disorganization of the parking, if you arrive early it is better to park on the street, because they will park anyway, closing the passage.

Religious tourist spot. Oldest church in the city. Well structured and wonderful looking. It has more than 160 years of foundation. It has easy access and close to the famous Beira Rio, a meeting point for various activities, both gastronomic, pubs and others. You are in Imperatriz on holiday, on vacation or if you are a local, be sure to visit this region, not forgetting to stop by the famous church to renew your faith.
