★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The bathrooms are terrible! We don't even have a private room, it's dirty everywhere... That's why I rather watch soccer through TV than going to stadiums...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stadium seems a little old and but stable, with a very Latin American feel. The game I went to was a derby, Flamengo v Vasco, and I sat, unknowingly when buying the tickets, in the Vasco section as a Flamengo fan (luckily wore nothing Flamengo related). Upon arriving to the stadium, the streets were filled with lots of Vasco fans, many who were not attending the game and were also from the adjacent favela. Being the foreigners, we were all watched and called gringos, although it was all in love and happiness. Lots of beer being sold, which is fine, although venders also sold much harder alcohol. Unsure if drugs were being sold, but marijuana was definitely being smoke by many. The fans also fought amongst their own fan base. They all seemed to know each other well. Police focused on our section, and broke up a fight with police sticks and firing tear gas at the rowdy crowd. They then stationed police in our section, who faced the crowd the whole game, (big) guns in hand. After the final whistle ( a 1-0 win for Flamengo) fights broke out, and Vasco fans started to destroy their stadium. Police fired smoke bombs into the crowd. After escaping the stadium (I mean that literally) the streets were mayhem. Police roamed with guns in cars and swords on top of horses slashing at people and shooting smoke bombs. There was only two way out. Into the adjacent favela, or brave wiggling past the line of police shooting bombs and swinging at people. Now my experience is based off all of this, and this was a rare occurrence which can happen at derbies, but the police protection and safety was lacking and security was not great, although not bad.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the most beautiful soccer stadiuns that I ever been. Extremely vibrand crowd that can make you heart beat faster. There is also a lot of history in this place too. If you are in Rio this is now of the spots you cannot miss. If Vasco is playing do not think twice, I go watch a game. Amazing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the most important stadiums in the history of Brazilian football. Home of Clube de Regatas Vasco da Gama.
