Such an incredibly beautiful hostel/villa nestled in a lush garden. Definitely recommend staying at this oasis!

This place is paradise. My hostel bed was extremely comfortable with curtain providing privacy, great air conditioning, beautiful gardens, a library to study in, hamocks in front of each house to relax in, birds and monkeys appear every now and then, very professional and kind staff, large kitchen to cook meals in, right next to all the points of interest in Paraty. I stayed many extra days because i loved it so much. I have been to 109 countries and have stayed in many many places and this was for me the nicest shared dorm room I have stayed in in all of my travels. I dont understand why it doesnt have higher reviews because it is the best. I checked some of the negative reviewers because i was curious who would write bad things about such a heavenly place and it looked like they write bad things about everything. I only left because i didnt reserve and they didnt have any more space.

Fantastic place, I'm totally satisfied with my stay here. For a guy from Europe felt like in paradise - palms around, exotic flowers, hummingbirds in the morning, small monkeys in the afternoons ... WAW! I must come here again. Aha, prices are budget type, everything is spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly. What else?

Great place to stay for new year. Very friendly and attentive staff and a great location. Easy walking distance to the old town but far enough away to be a quiet little oasis at night. Breakfast was delicious and excellent value with a good range of options including omelette, avocado toast and fruits. The pool is a good size for both swimming and relaxing around and there is a fridge to buy nice cold drinks at reception. Very easy to book jeep and schooner tours from here too. Room was great with a good air conditioner and nice and dark at night to get a good night's sleep.

Beautiful set, buildings and location. A lot of things just not quite right meaning overall impression is spoiled. Rooms are dirty (like having to mop the floor with a towel to remove dust dirty). Kitchen smells like it's not been cleaned since the last century. The rooms lack ventilation which means when it rains (it rained every day we stayed there for 6 days!), the rooms get very damp - we even had mould growing on clothes and bags.

I had this incident with a British guest, who was staying in my room and got angry because I was snoring. He woke up during the night and hit me with a slap on my leg while I was sleeping. Of course, I got afraid and scared so I couldn't close my eyes for the next couple hours. I reported the experience the front desk but unfortunately I had to leave before I planned, because staying in the same room was not an option.

This was one of the least enjoyable hostel/hotel stays I have ever experienced. I will list the problems below: I booked an individual room. Upon arrival on the first night, I realized there were over ten mosquitoes flying around the room. I understand that this is an area with many mosquitoes, but there was obviously absolutely no effort made here to spray the room beforehand. I was unable to sleep the first night because of this. For the second night, I bought a plug-in mosquito repellant and turned the air conditioning on and was able to clear most of them out. This shows that even the most minimal effort of purchasing a plug in repellant would have aided the situation. I have stayed in many hotels across Colombia and Brazil and this is the first time I have run into this problem. Also, there was some sand and dirt in my bed when I arrived, once again showing minimal effort on cleanliness. The walls had some mold on them and the room was damp. The chairs in the room were very uncomfortable, almost unusable and not ideal for someone who is aiming to work from his room for part of the day. Maybe they do this so that you have to pay for the coworking space, but I find it unacceptable. On the third night, the water in my room stopped working, so my bathroom was not functional at all. When I told the front desk agent, he offered me a different room, so I packed up everything I had and stood outside waiting. After about 45 minutes, the front desk agent let me know that none of his room keys were working, therefore I would have to go back to my room. I had to once again unpack all my belongings and had no water or bathroom for the night, after standing in the dark and getting bit by mosquitoes outside for almost an hour. There was even a time when my towels were taken for cleaning and not replaced. I had to go to the front desk to ask for towels again. This is a minor issue, but just shows the disorganization of this Selina location once again. The pool was also not functional due to it being under construction. Although I understand that repairs must be made, I paid for this room in part because I expected to be able to use the pool. No notice was given about this beforehand or even during the stay - I just found out myself. Overall, this stay was disorganized, uncomfortable, and disappointing. If I had booked an Airbnb, I would likely have received at least a partial refund because of these issues, and likely at a lower cost. I had chosen to stay at Selina because I expected it to be a better experience, but needless to say it was not. The only positives about this experience were the bartending and restaurant staff who were very attentive. The location is also good. I had high hopes for Selina and was hoping to stay again in different locations in the future, but for now they seem to be all marketing and not much else.

My girlfriend and I had a very nice stay there. Everything was wonderful from friendly and helpful staff to the great activities they could help you book. The hostel is quite charming and the room we booked (suite for two) was everything we hoped for ! We had hotel rooms that couldn't compete!
