Santa Teresa tram is a very pleasant ride up the hill with spectacular views of Rio. Better than the traditional tourist traps (Christo, Corcovado). I recommend to leave the tram at the final stop Morro dos Prazeres and walk around, have a beer in a Morro (favela) bar and have chats with locals.

The best part was at the beginning where it crosses the arc. Also the happy Brazilian tourists on the tram who greeted every person we passed by! The Brazilians do have a contagious positivity and cheerfulness! We didn't get off at the last stop (magnificent views) since it was late and we felt there won't be space on our tram back (most people just stay on the tram the whole way). Very inefficient. The tram left 15 minutes late and the staffs seem to be in no hurry to keep the schedule. Also on weekends the last train ends earlier at 4pm!

About what I expected. A streetcar ride up a hill some panoramic views of the favelas and a super run down part of Rio. I don't want to be negative, I liked it, not for everyone. It's about 4$ for an hour ride. There are two places of interest to get off and explore, I chose not to.

First/last stop for old Santa Teresa tram. Easy access for tickets (return 20$R) and nice ride around 30 min one way with old views, etc.

It's old, kitschy and a lot of fun. Make sure you stop at the bottom so you get to experience crossing the Carioca Aqueduct. I recommend riding straight to the top, turning around and then getting off in Santa Teresa for lunch.

Would suggest you get this first thing in the morning up to Hill, hang around eat, maybe explore the community (safely), grab some capirinhas on the way and then maybe Parque das ruinas and then come back down. The queues are quite long. The views are OK. It's a good ride for novelty but I wasn't blown away. Also, it runs into Rio traffic in the way
