I just went to ifcs at night to enjoy a block or a party there in the little square behind it... good place but be careful when walking there at night!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Prédio de bela arquitetura que abriga o Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Sociais da UFRJ. Apesar do exterior um pouco dilapidado, a parte interna é surpreendente, com um belo pátio interno repleto de plantas e bancos com guarda-sóis. Muito agradável.
Beautiful architecture building that houses the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences of UFRJ. Despite the somewhat dilapidated exterior, the interior is stunning, with a beautiful plant-filled inner courtyard and benches with umbrellas. Very nice.

O edifício ocupa um lugar de relevância na UFRJ, oferece três cursos de graduação, em Ciências Sociais, em Filosofia e até 2011, História, hoje pertencente ao IH-UFRJ, apesar de também funcionar no mesmo prédio situado no Largo de São Francisco. Além disso, é composto por mais quatro cursos de pós-graduação, através dos programas em Sociologia e Antropologia; Filosofia; Lógica e Metafísica; e em Ciência Política.
I visited the IFCS library in 2008. The building occupies a place of relevance at UFRJ, offers three undergraduate courses in Social Sciences, Philosophy and until 2011, History, now belonging to the IH-UFRJ, although it also works in the same building located in Largo de São Francisco. In addition, it is composed of four more postgraduate courses, through programs in Sociology and Anthropology; Philosophy; Logic and Metaphysics; and Political Science.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not only it is a very important historical building, but it actually is the philosophy and social sciences faculty of the federal university of Rio de Janeiro. They have free bathrooms, sometimes there are book sales and there is a nice coffee shop on the first floor, right beside their beautiful library.
