★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is a bit dirty and the equipment is scratched and abused by people who don't appreciate it.
The Train system can take you very very far for only 5R across Rio.
If possible I would like to see a small Cafe and a guard at each train station. Some of the train stations seem kindof dangerous at night.
Or perhaps each train could have a small cafe car added to it? The system could make some rental money and people could sit and enjoy a coffee on their trip.
Some of the trains do go their very scenic areas, although they have built up walls and buildings around so it's difficult to see them.
Overall, the Train system is quite good and inexpensive, it could perhaps be made a bit more comfortable and a bit more modern with some very simple fixes.
I'm not a train system consultant tho, perhaps a Brazillian could do a study of world wide train systems and see how each is setup.
I would really like it the Rio train system connected with Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba ect. Traveling by train is a lot more pleasant than traveling by bus because you have more room to get up and walk around.
I won't pretend to understand the challenges Rio train systems has overcome, it is quite good tho, and people in Rio should be very proud of it.
And don't think this is just fluff, because I've left 1 star reviews across numerous businesses and locations across Rio.
I've been all over the world and the Cariocas should be proud of their Trains, it's a very strong inexpensive system, perhaps if it was treated with a bit more reverence it would respond better.
