★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Construído em 1606 e reedificado em 1957, o casarão funcionou primeiramente como sede da Casa do Contrato das Baleias --a caça ao cetáceo foi uma das principais atividades econômicas da ilha-- e, posteriormente, hospedou os imperadores D. João VI, D. Pedro I e D. Pedro II. Interligada por um túnel à Fortaleza de São Lourenço, serviu como rota das famílias mais ricas nas ocasiões em que Itaparica era alvo de invasões piratas. Restaurada por um empresário, foi emprestada ao município para realização de eventos.
Built in 1606 and rebuilt in 1957, the mansion first served as the headquarters of the Casa do Emprego das Baleias – cetacean hunting was one of the main economic activities on the island – and later hosted the emperors D. João VI, D. Pedro I and D. Pedro II. Interconnected by a tunnel to the Fortress of São Lourenço, it served as a route for the richest families on occasions when Itaparica was the target of pirate invasions. Restored by a businessman, it was loaned to the municipality for holding events.
