O Conselho Tutelar é um órgão público municipal de caráter autônomo e permanente, cuja função é zelar pelos direitos da infância e juventude, conforme os princípios estabelecidos pelo Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente, que completou vinte anos de vigência no Brasil no dia treze de julho último.
O Conselho agirá sempre que os direitos de crianças e adolescentes forem ameaçados ou violados pela própria sociedade, pelo Estado, pelos pais, pelo responsável ou em razão de sua própria conduta, conforme descreve o Estatuto.
Em Ubá, o Conselho Tutelar funciona no complexo do Fórum Cultural de Ubá, na Praça São Januário, com atendimento público de segunda a sexta feira, de oito às dezoito horas.
