O nome da cidade tem origem no idioma indígena Tupi, pela junção dos termos gûyrá ("pássaro") e akaîu ("caju"), significando, portanto, "Cajueiro dos Pássaros". Nele está escrito: "Ser feliz Aracaju". A obra tem autoria do artista plástico Eurico Luiz, natural de Araçatuba, São Paulo, radicado em Sergipe por 26 anos. Formado em Artes Plásticas pela Escola de Belas Artes do Estado da Bahia, Eurico gostava de retratar e de buscar a alma humana, provocando através das formas de suas obras de arte o sentimento interior do homem. Autor de diversas obras espalhadas por ruas e avenidas de Aracaju, Eurico Luiz faleceu em 09 de dezembro de 2014, em Aracaju.
The Tropical Monument symbolizes two representative characteristics of Aracaju: cashews and birds (in this case, macaws). The city's name comes from the Tupi indigenous language, by the combination of the terms gûyrá ("bird") and akaîu ("caju"), meaning, therefore, "Cashew Tree of the Birds". On it is written: "Be happy Aracaju". The work is authored by plastic artist Eurico Luiz, born in Araçatuba, São Paulo, living in Sergipe for 26 years. Graduated in Fine Arts at the School of Fine Arts of the State of Bahia, Eurico liked to portray and seek the human soul, provoking through the forms of his works of art the inner feeling of man. Author of several works spread throughout the streets and avenues of Aracaju, Eurico Luiz passed away on December 9, 2014, in Aracaju.
