Construído em 1770, remodelado em 1892 e desativado em 1997, o Forte da Laje ocupa uma pequena ilhota do tamanho de um campo de futebol em frente ao Pão de Açúcar, na entrada da Baía da Guanabara. Durante mais de 200 anos serviu como principal defesa da cidade equipada com potentes canhões e artilharia. O local serviu também de prisão tendo abrigado, entre outros, nomes como Olavo Bilac e Bento Gonçalves. O lugar hoje está completamente em ruínas. Existe até um projeto de transformar o local num sofisticado restaurante, mas que nunca saiu do papel.
 Laje Fort
Built in 1770, remodeled in 1892 and deactivated in 1997, Forte da Laje occupies a small islet the size of a football field in front of the Sugarloaf Mountain, at the entrance to Guanabara Bay. For more than 200 years it served as the main defense of the city equipped with powerful cannons and artillery. The place also served as a prison having sheltered, among others, names like Olavo Bilac and Bento Gonçalves. The place today is completely in ruins. There is even a project to transform the place into a sophisticated restaurant, but that never left the paper.

It is located in the middle of the entrance to Baía da Guanabara, on Ilha da Laje.
In a strategic position on the right side of the interior of the bar, about three kilometers from the Urca beach, it stands on a rocky outcrop with dimensions of approximately 100 meters long and 60 meters wide, defending the bar of Guanabara Bay between the mid-17th century and the late 20th century.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Forte militar desativado, com visitação proibida. Mesmo não sendo permitido entrar, vale muito chegar perto e ver de longe. No meio da baía da Guanabara, próximo à Urca, o visual é de tirar o fôlego. É possível chegar lá somente pela água (barco, canoa, stand up paddle, caiaque...)
Disabled military fort, with no visitation. Even though you are not allowed to enter, it is worth getting up close and seeing from afar. In the middle of Guanabara Bay, near Urca, the view is breathtaking. You can get there only by water (boat, canoe, stand up paddle, kayak...)
