Há dois tipos de resultados possíveis nesse exame:
Detectado, que é quando há presença de infecção viral e não detectado, que indica que não foi encontrado o vírus na amostra.
O prazo da entrega do resultado é de 1 (hum) dia útil após a coleta.
É importante explicar que, principalmente em pacientes assintomáticos, o resultado negativo do PCR salivar, não descarta a presença do vírus, que pode estar presente em concentração inferior ao limite de detecção do teste, o que pode ocorrer nos dias iniciais ou finais da infecção.
Além disso, outros testes, como a sorologia, podem ser realizados para avaliar os níveis de anticorpos no organismo do paciente previamente infectado.
